Serious About Play

Glenbrook’s curriculum is designed to help children grow in a way that is best suited to each child’s developmental pace and to meet each child’s needs through play in a controlled and time-structured preschool environment

The special nature of Glenbrook Cooperative Nursery School is the close working relationship between parents and teachers. This cooperative approach offers a unique support system as it builds a sense of community and togetherness for parents and children.

Being part of a cooperative nursery school means growth and learning for everyone involved. Teachers, parents, and children attend school together and learn from one another. The environment at Glenbrook is nurturing and supportive. The children engage in spontaneous play within a controlled and time-structured environment. Each child has the opportunity for his/her imagination, curiosity, and interests to wander, expand, and develop.

Glenbrook believes that the educational environment that most effectively promotes significant learning is one in which:

  • We value, respect, and trust the individuality and uniqueness of the child;
  • External threats to self such as rejection, criticism, competitive evaluation, reward or punishment are at a minimum;
  • The child is free to explore the materials and resources that are available to him in light of his own interest,
    potentials, and readiness, regarding the rights of others.
